Climate Change

Right Now there is a conference happening

Arctic Circle conference, Reykjavik, Iceland

I just watched this live on

Al Jazeera

Climate change is a global phenomenon that poses risks to sectors across society and the economy. Nature-based approaches can offer sustainable solutions to cope with climate change mitigation and adaptation challenges.

Compared to technology-based solutions to climate challenges, nature-based solutions are often lower cost, longer lasting, and have multiple synergistic benefits for a variety of sectors and political goals.

Nature-based solutions also makes good economic sense.

Major Cities can benefit from Nature-based solutions as well such as Rotterdam when they incorporated nature-based solutions into  their urban planning process..

Investment in Infrastructure

Our infrastructure is crumpling and should meet the needs of the community.

Our region needs to address crumbling infrastructure because investment in our communities' infrastructure creates jobs, which creates economic development, which creates a better life for our citizens.

Our infrastructure should meet the needs of the Community.

Our rural communities are particularly hard hit.  Their need is the greatest and yet the resources available are less.  The infrastructure dollars need to go where the need is the greatest.

Many small communities simply do not have the funds collected from taxes to address this crisis and rely solely on government grants to get the job done.

We all pay for it one way or another, so can we all find a way to work together on this issue to better the lives of Canadians living in these communities who are grappling with this crisis of infrastructure collapse.

Many forget it was not that long ago the main streets of a small BC community collapsed completely leaving huge sinkholes.  We need to restore trust and address our infrastructure.  But we need to give where the need is the greatest.

We as Canadians should be Supporting new projects that build prosperous communities and transition to a clean growth economy

Look at sound and proven principals when designing our communities infrastructure and incorporating NATURE-BASED SOLUTIONS

Indigenous Peoples

September 30th was Orange Shirt Day in commemoration of First Nations Residential School Survivors.

Other than the Independent Candidate, the Green Party Candidate was the only candidate to

acknowledge Orange Shirt Day at the Oliver Party Debate.  It was nice to see at least one candidate on the stage giving recognition to

survivors and their families.

Please take a moment to click on this link,

Liberals have stressed their commitment to reconciliation while brushing off criticisms of their policies — including their support for the Trans Mountain pipeline, which will run through reserves.

And Yet the government is currently being taken to court by one of the bands in British Columbia over drinking water.

The government announced $4.5 billion in the 2019 budget for Indigenous services, which includes money to address Inuit healthcare gaps, revitalize languages and create a national council on reconciliation.  And they cannot even deal with the issue of ensuring safe drinking water.

Affordable Housing

Of all the information on how the government plans to tackle the Affordable Housing Issue, in my opinion, this website put out by CMHC is the most informative.

Personally, I  would like to see more co-operative housing.  I would also like to see more oversight of seniors  housing to ensure our elderly are being cared for adequately by their landlords who are recipients of CMHC funding.

Health Care

The Liberal government signed a health care funding agreement with the provinces and territories, promising a three per cent annual health transfer increase with more funding for mental health, addictions and home care programs.

How about we boost funding to train and recruit more medical professionals and encourage the funding of more resources  to rural areas so citizens can access the healthcare they locally .

We need to recognize that essential health services are a right for every Canadian and we need to support our healthcare system so our healthcare system can support us when we need them.

Small Business

The party got a lashing from small business owners after proposing tax reforms and had to backpedal parts of the proposal to soften impact. Amid criticism, Liberals did lower the small business tax rate from 10.5 to 9 per cent as promised. They’ve now pledged to give cash to entrepreneurs to build startups and eliminate the tax "swipe fee" merchants pay to credit card companies.

That is not good enough to hold the government accountable to its previous campaign promise of cutting takes to small business.  We need to ensure that small business are aware of all opportunities that can be accessed.

The government invests and yet have huge deficits, but do not stimulate growth in the economy.  Commitments come not when elected, but rather when seeking re-election.

This is not good for business.  This is not giving the citizens what they need and really doesn't help small business.

Check out this great video on the problem with party politic governance system.  I believe a Representative of the Constituency should be an Advocate for that Constituency.

Check out this great video on the problem with Gerrymandering and how it impacts on your vote and how government make-up is determined using this strategy.  Party Politics has some features that independent candidates do not subscribe to.  For an Independent our party consists of all citizens within the constituency.   And our Party line is what the constituents decide...Your voice is what your Representative carries with them.

Also including a bonus video on the topic of Gerrymandering and the problem of multiple party gerrymandering.  Hope you enjoy these little information videos folks.

Check out this great video the Alternative Vote.  I hope you are finding this information interesting.  And I hope you come away with more understanding of how this works.

Check out this great video on Mixed-Member Proportional Representation.  It is important for voters to understand the voting systems and how they work.  Hope you enjoyed these video.

Independent and Proud of it

There's much to see here. So, take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about me and who I am by what I believe in.

I believe in Accountability & Transparency in Government at all levels.

I believe we should receive Good Value for OUR Tax Dollars.

I believe the environment is important to people and we all want our waterways and environmentally sensitive lands protected for future generations.

I believe in investing in Infrastructure is important, not only because many of our regions need to address crumbling infrastructure, but primarily because investment in our communities' infrastructure creates jobs, which creates economic development, which creates a better life for our citizens.

I believe that the needs of our seniors is not being adequately addressed.

What do I want?

I want to see our healthcare system get the support it so desperately needs to care for our citizens.

I want to see our social programs get the support to help the vulnerable, the homeless, the addicted or just the single mother trying to get her education, find work and support her family.

I want citizens with concerns to feel they have an ear and a voice.

I want citizens to know that we as a community care about each other.

I want children to learn by the positive examples of good citizenship as these children are our future leaders and we all need to set a good example for their sake.

I want to see how much funding is coming into this area and I want to see where it is going and I want to know how it is spent.

We all know how enormously wasteful governments are.  We can do better in Government to give our citizens Good Value for the $ that taxpayers give Government to invest back into communities.

We hope you enjoy our site and take a moment to drop us a line.
